TOWARDS COP30 IN BELÉM

A grassroots effort to put an end to the technocapitalist system that breeds inequality, destruction, and death.

WHO
WE ARE

We are the communities experiencing ecological and distributive conflicts firsthand and in our local communities. We are those who have contributed least to the ecological crisis but are suffering its effects the most.

In the silence of politics, faced with the absence of adequate and coherent proposals from those who define themselves as alternatives to government policies, only citizen participation in political decisions and the organization of collective behavior can change things. In a wounded and low-intensity democracy like ours, grassroots action is necessary, bringing together communities affected by worsening ecological and social conditions, environmental and social justice movements, workers, and local institutions where possible. This will achieve the critical mass needed to have an impact and bring proposals and alternatives for a better life to public attention.

Addressing these issues and changing political priorities is possible through initiatives, mobilizations, and proposals capable of mobilizing participation, restoring voice and representation to the commitment of citizens and environmental and social justice movements.

THE APPEAL

Less than three months before the next World Climate Conference, the Meloni government is canceling funding for ecological reconversion, denying the climate crisis, cutting resources for environmental cleanups and social security, repressing environmental activists who speak the truth and protest, failing to listen to communities affected by environmental injustice and misguided projects, donating public funds to fossil fuel and weapons lobbies, undermining the European Green Deal, and bowing to the interests of big US corporations by accepting Trump’s blackmail and tariff policies. This is all while humanity faces the most serious environmental and social crisis in its history and climate breakdown threatens the safety of all. (CONTINUE READING)

OUR REQUESTS

Invest €1 trillion over 10 years for an ecological conversion of production activities and the energy supply chain that is planned (public), inclusive (with workers), fair (the wealthy must pay for it through general taxation), participatory (communities, movements, and local knowledge must be involved), and decentralized.

We need climate change adaptation and mitigation policies that meet our needs for health, decent and fair work, and participation. Public investments in this direction include environmental cleanups, ecological citizenship work, the socialization of strategic infrastructure between countries and municipalities, and socio-ecological reproduction activities.

Concrete
solutions
are urgently
needed.

The Italian government must respect international agreements and guarantee social and environmental security in the country. We cannot accept that, instead of using public resources to protect life, they are wasted on weapons and wars, maintaining intact the very system that led to the crisis. We must prevent this devastation. The present and the right to a future for all are at stake.

TOWARDS BELÈM

Since 1992, with the Global Forum, the People’s Summit has emerged as a powerful cry of resistance, echoing the voices silenced by the politics of the powerful. While official COPs continue to focus on numbers and goals, the Summit speaks of struggles, hope, rights, and territories. Here, we are building a future based on social, environmental, and ecological justice, demonstrating that our struggle is urgent, necessary, and indispensable for life. To return to acting globally as one great movement toward COP30 in Belém, Brazil.
